The 2026 GQ Reunion and the Road to “ARIRANG”

On February 13, 2026, the global music landscape shifted as BTS officially marked their return as a full seven-member group with a historic cover feature for the March issue of GQ.

In a feat of unprecedented cultural influence, the group appeared on the covers of 15 regional editions of the magazine simultaneously—including the United States, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, and Mexico—making them the first South Korean artists to achieve such global saturation.

The pictorial, which features RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook in a high-fashion “press conference” setting, carries the bold caption:

“BTS is back. Any questions?”

This visual statement serves as the definitive end to their nearly four-year hiatus and a powerful reintroduction after completing their mandatory military service.

Opening Up About the Weight of Expectations

The accompanying cover story, penned by Raymond Ang, offers a raw and vulnerable look into the psyche of the world’s biggest band as they prepare for their most anticipated comeback to date. Central to the interview was the discussion of mental pressure.

Leader RM candidly addressed a moment from late 2025 where he had openly questioned the group’s future during a livestream, even mentioning the possibility of disbandment due to the crushing weight of global expectations.

In a display of their unique brotherly bond, the other members revealed they handled RM’s confession with humor and “booze” rather than somber intervention.

V admitted that most of them hadn’t even watched the full livestream, choosing instead to send RM memes and tease him to lighten his burden.

“RM is the identity of this group,” V noted, acknowledging the immense responsibility their leader carries.

This internal cohesion is what the group credits for their survival; rather than drifting apart during their solo eras, the members actually moved back in together for two months in Los Angeles to record their new material.

“ARIRANG”: A Return to Roots and a New Era

The GQ feature confirmed that BTS will release their fifth studio album, titled ARIRANG, on March 20, 2026. Inspired by the traditional Korean folk song of the same name, the album consists of 14 tracks and is described by the members as a project that reflects their desire to return to their roots while opening a sophisticated new chapter.

RM compared the songwriting process to “gold digging,” suggesting that the group has unearthed something truly special.

The album aims to capture “BTS as they are now”—mature, experienced, and deeply connected.

Following the release, the group will hold a massive “BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG” at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21, which will be broadcast globally via Netflix.

Visions of the Future: Dancing into Their 60s

Perhaps the most heartening revelation for the ARMY (their fandom) was the group’s long-term vision.

Despite the grueling nature of the K-pop industry, the members expressed a desire for extreme longevity. Suga told GQ,

“If we can keep this going, then maybe we can be dancing in our 60s.”

They emphasized that their collective identity as BTS is more valuable to them than their individual solo successes. This sentiment was echoed by V, who stated,

“We all treasure BTS more than we treasure each one of us separately.”

A Global Tour and Economic Impact

The return of BTS is being treated as a national and global event. Along with the album, a massive world tour spanning 2026 and 2027 has been announced, with over 80 dates already planned.

Demand has been so extraordinary that initial dates in South Korea sold out within hours, prompting immediate tour expansions.

Industry insiders anticipate that this comeback will not only dominate the charts but also provide a significant boost to South Korea’s economy.

As they prepare to step onto the “King’s Road” for their Seoul comeback show, it is clear that BTS is not just returning to music—they are reclaiming their throne as the undisputed sovereigns of global pop culture.
