The upcoming anime adaptation of Kirio Fan Club has revealed its second promotional trailer, giving fans another look at the series before its appearance at AnimeJapan 2026. The new preview introduces additional scenes that highlight the show’s mix of comedy and emotional storytelling while building anticipation for its global streaming debut in early April.
Based on the manga by Chikyu no Osakana Ponchan, Kirio Fan Club originally ran from 2022 to 2024 in Ruelle COMICS, published by Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha. The manga quickly gained attention for its unique take on romantic comedy and strong character-driven storytelling.
Despite concluding its run, the manga has remained popular among readers. It ranked sixth in the “Women’s Edition” of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! in 2024 and tenth in 2025, achieving back-to-back top ten placements. These rankings helped establish the series as one of the standout romantic comedy manga aimed at female audiences in recent years.
The story follows two high school girls, Aimi Miyoshi and Nami Sometani, whose daily lives revolve around their shared admiration for their quiet classmate Ken Kirio. Instead of focusing on a straightforward romance, the series explores the exaggerated imagination and emotional chaos that comes with one-sided love.
The two friends constantly fantasize about small, everyday moments with Kirio, like sharing a hamburger or walking under the same umbrella, turning ordinary situations into dramatic daydreams.
While the premise leans heavily into comedy, the narrative gradually reveals deeper emotional layers. The girls’ intense devotion to Kirio begins to reshape their lives, suggesting that their feelings may eventually lead them toward unexpected personal growth. This blend of humor, awkward teenage longing, and subtle emotional development is a key element that helped the manga stand out.
The franchise has already expanded beyond its original format. In April 2025, Kirio Fan Club received a live-action television drama adaptation that was well received and later won the Galaxy Award Encouragement Prize in the television category. The recognition significantly raised the series’ profile and contributed to the momentum leading up to the anime adaptation.
The anime is directed by Sou Toyama with series composition by Aya Satsuki. Character designs are handled by Nami Hayashi, while animation production is managed by studio Satelight. The staff also includes Tomoki Kikuya as composer and Toshiki Kameyama as sound director.
The voice cast features Nene Hieda as Aimi Miyoshi and Shion Wakayama as Nami Sometani, alongside Gakuto Kajiwara as Ken Kirio. Supporting cast members include Yuya Hirose, Jin Ogasawara, Ayasa Ito, and Fuka Izumi.
Fans will be able to learn more about the anime during AnimeJapan 2026. A dedicated Kirio Fan Club stage event is scheduled for March 29 at Tokyo Big Sight at the PONY CANYON booth, where several cast members will appear. The event will also be streamed live on the PONY CANYON YouTube channel, allowing international fans to watch remotely.
The anime is set to begin streaming worldwide starting April 3 at 1:00 AM JST, marking the official debut of the series for global audiences. With its mix of comedic fantasy, relatable teenage emotions, and a slightly bittersweet perspective on unrequited love, Kirio Fan Club is poised to become one of the more distinctive romantic comedy anime releases of the year.
