Netflix’s smash-hit series Squid Game is back with its highly anticipated third season, and fans are already getting an exciting sneak peek thanks to newly released behind-the-scenes photos showcasing the elaborate filming sets.
The upcoming season promises to dive deeper into the intense and deadly saga surrounding key characters like Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) and the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung Hun), along with the other surviving contestants facing the brutal final chapter of the game.
Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared insights into the new season’s tone and visual design, explaining that Squid Game 3 will be “darker and more brutal” than its predecessor while maintaining clever and humorous moments.

His vision for the game sets continues the show’s iconic blend of childlike aesthetics mixed with grim and morally complex themes, symbolizing the harsh realities and moral dilemmas that the characters must confront.
One of the most striking new set pieces is the VIP room, which has been transformed with a luxurious white marble theme—contrasting with the fiery personality of Gi Hun and reflecting the cold, calculated nature of the Front Man.

Art director Chae Kyoung Sun revealed how the design incorporates symbolism through color and shape, describing the hexagonal VIP dining table as a solid, oracle-like figure and using poisonous plant motifs to represent cruelty and violence.
This design shift highlights the contrast between the first season’s “law of the jungle” grassland motif and this season’s brighter but more dangerous environment.
The upcoming season is not just about thrilling visuals and heart-pounding games but also delivers a profound message.
Director Hwang Dong Hyuk intends to challenge viewers by asking whether humanity itself has the power to improve the world, using the narrative as a reflection on human nature and societal cruelty.
Squid Game 3 is set to premiere on June 27, 2025, and is poised to be a gripping conclusion to the critically acclaimed series.
While waiting, fans can catch Lee Jung Jae’s latest work in Deliver Us from Evil and see Lee Byung Hun and Yim Si Wan star in Emergency Declaration.
With its rich symbolism, expanded universe, and the signature mix of suspense, morality, and dark humor, Squid Game 3 promises to be a fitting finale for one of the most groundbreaking Korean dramas in recent history.
