Sentenced to Be a Hero Episode 9 Builds Anticipation With Trailer and Visuals

The television anime “Sentenced to Be a Hero” has revealed new information for its upcoming episode. Episode #09, titled “Sentence: Undercover Investigation in District of Sodrick 2,” has now released its official trailer, story summary, and selected still images, offering viewers a preview of what to expect in the next installment of the series.

Based on the hugely popular light novel published under Dengeki no Shin Bungei, “Sentenced to Be a Hero” has built strong recognition even before its anime adaptation.

The original novel earned several major accolades, including awards from the 2020 Kakuyomu Awards, The 2021 Tsugirano Awards for up-and-coming light novel series, and recognition in This Light Novel is Amazing! 2023. These achievements helped elevate the series’ profile and paved the way for its transition into an animated television production.

With the anime currently progressing through its broadcast, the ninth episode, “Sentence: Undercover Investigation in District of Sodrick 2,” has now revealed additional details.

Alongside the newly released preview trailer, the production team has shared a brief synopsis and selected stills that highlight key moments from the upcoming episode. The preview provides fans with an early glimpse into the escalating conflict faced by the main characters as the story continues to unfold.

According to the newly released summary, Xylo’s party cuts off the reinforcement route and launches an aggressive assault, defeating adventurers while causing widespread chaos. Their momentum is suddenly interrupted when a faerie troll appears, catching the group off guard.

The situation shifts again when Teoritta and the others arrive to support the fight. Despite the confrontation, however, the crucial target Lideo ultimately manages to escape, leaving the outcome uncertain and setting the stage for further developments.

The episode’s script is written by Kenta Ihara, while Takashi Katagiri (WIT STUDIO) handled the storyboard. The animation direction team includes Masaru Obata, Masahito Kunimatsu, Ko Hirabayashi, Mayumi Fukushi, Keita Fukuda, Hinata Horikawa, Atsushi Nanba, Yan yuanjing, Gu jia, Ritsuki, du jing jing, and Federico Iglesias.

The official preview trailer for the episode has also been made available online through the KADOKAWA Anime YouTube channel, allowing viewers to watch the latest footage ahead of the broadcast.

The story of “Sentenced to Be a Hero” originates from the novel series written by Rocket Shokai. Set in a dark fantasy world, the narrative revolves around a brutal system of punishment in which criminals are sentenced to become “Heroes.”

Rather than being honored warriors, these individuals are forced into a penal military unit tasked with fighting against the army of a demon king. Their service is relentless and inescapable, as even death offers no release.

The series first began in October 2020 on the self-publishing platform kakuyomu.jp. Its growing popularity led to an official publication under Kadokawa’s Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint in September 2021, featuring illustrations by MEPHISTO.

Following its strong reception and multiple award recognitions, the story has now expanded into the anime medium, bringing its dark fantasy setting and characters to a broader audience.

Within the narrative, the term “Hero” represents the harshest punishment imaginable. Individuals convicted of severe crimes are forced into mandatory military service to battle the catastrophic threat known as the Demon Blight. Even death does not free them from their duty, if they fall in battle, they are resurrected and sent back to the front lines to fight again.

The central figure of the story is Hero Xylo Forbartz, the former head of the Order of the Holy Knights. Now leading a penal unit composed of disgraced and dangerous individuals, Xylo finds himself fighting on the front lines of a brutal war. Amid these desperate circumstances, he encounters Teoritta, a being considered one of the world’s most powerful weapons.

Driven by the need to survive and fueled by a desire for revenge against those who wronged him, Xylo ultimately forms a pact with the GODDESS, throwing himself into a chaotic battlefield filled with conflict, power struggles, and hidden agendas.

The anime features a large cast of voice actors, including Yohei Azakami as Xylo Forbartz, Mayu Iizuka as Teoritta, Shizuka Ishigami as Patausche Kivia, Shun Horie as Dotta Luzulas, Shunichi Toki as Venetim Leopool, Yoji Ueda as Norgalle Senridge, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Tatsuya, Jun Fukushima as Tsav, Shoya Chiba as Jayce Partiract, Yoko Hikasa as Neely, Yuichi Nakamura as Rhyno, and Saori Onishi as Frenci Mastibolt.

The production staff behind the anime includes Rocket Shokai as the original author and MEPHISTO as the original illustrator. Hiroyuki Takashima serves as the director, with Kenta Ihara handling series composition and story editing.

Yoshiki Nakakoji works as assistant director and creature designer, while Takeru Noda provides the character designs. The world concept is created by Nobutaka Ike, with prop design by Kota Sugawa and effect design by Fumiaki Kota.

Additional key staff members include Yusuke Watanabe as art director, Hiroko Umezaki as color director, and Yoshihiro Sekiya as director of photography. The 3DCG work is handled by ENGI, while Marina Tosaka (GA-CREW) oversees the 2D graphics.

Editing is managed by Rina Oguchi, and Yuichi Morita serves as sound director with sound production by Bit Groove Promotion Inc. The series’ music is composed by Shunsuke Takizawa (TRYTONELABO).

The animation production is handled by Studio KAI, with Masashi Masuo acting as animation producer, and the project is produced by Project Sentenced to Be a Hero.

The anime’s theme song, “Kill the Noise,” is performed by SPYAIR, further reinforcing the intense tone of the series as it continues its broadcast.
