The uncertainty surrounding Dragon Ball Super continues to trouble fans. Since the anime wrapped in 2018, the franchise has stayed relevant through blockbuster films like Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Super Hero. However, loyal viewers have long hoped to see the anime return to match the ongoing manga, which continued the story beyond the Tournament of Power.
While the manga kept hope alive, even that now feels distant. The next issue of V Jump will commemorate Dragon Ball Super’s 10th anniversary, but the celebration won’t include a new chapter. Instead, it will showcase new illustrations by artist Toyotarou. Following Akira Toriyama’s passing in March 2024, plans for the franchise slowed, and nearly a year later, the silence remains concerning.
A Milestone Without Momentum

According to respected sources like @DbsHype and ryokutya837, the anniversary will be marked with two new pieces of artwork—one honoring the manga itself, the other promoting a Dragon Ball Legends anniversary. Yet despite this recognition, no fresh installment will appear in the magazine. This news hits harder given the symbolic weight of the moment.
After the release of chapter #103, “A Legacy Toward the Future,” which arrived shortly after Toriyama’s death, the series entered a lengthy pause. Only a brief Trunks one-shot appeared this February, and beyond that, updates have been minimal. While MangaPlus reassures readers to stay tuned, and V Jump reserves space for future chapters, there’s still no confirmation of what’s next.
A Franchise Thriving Without New Chapters

Despite its ongoing pause, Dragon Ball continues to generate staggering profits. In 2024, the franchise earned over 190.6 billion yen for Bandai Namco, making it the company’s top-performing IP. That success speaks volumes about its enduring popularity, even in the absence of current anime or manga production from Toei Animation or Shueisha.
Though Dragon Ball Super was rumored to be tied up in rights discussions after Toriyama’s death, the release of the recent one-shot suggests no legal hurdles are preventing its return. Still, with no official word or schedule for the next arc, fans are left in limbo. For now, Goku, Vegeta, and their epic journeys are paused, and the wait shows no sign of ending.
As the community celebrates ten years of Dragon Ball Super, they do so without a new chapter to mark the occasion. While profits rise and fans remain loyal, the absence of direction casts a long shadow over the future of a series that once defined modern anime. Until announcements arrive, hope is all that remains.
